Devil’s Glen, Wicklow Mountains

glendalough walks

Lying at the heart of Wicklow Mountains National Park, the Valley of Glendalough is well known for its two lakes and its magnificent scenery. It is also home to the ruins of a  monastery with a Round Tower still standing tall.

Devils Glen Waterfall

The trail through the Devil’s Glen leads to a waterfall tumbling down into a deep pool.  Further on, the walk joins up a trail created in honour of Seamus Heaney, Nobel Price of Literature.  He often came for a walk there as he used to live close by.

Giant’s Grave, Dublin Mountains

Killiney Hill Park, coastal walk

Fairy Castle Giants Grave 1

In a small clearing lay the stones of an imposing grave, built some four thousand years ago.  It is known locally as the Giant’s Grave.   After leaving the clearing, the trail leads to Three Rock Mountain.  Stunning views open up over the coast and Dublin.

Killiney Hill Park View over Bay

The trail meanders through the woodlands of the Park to the tops of two hills overlooking the sea.  Panoramic views open up, stretching from the  mountains to Dublin and its green suburbs. On the way back, there are lovely views over Dalkey Island.
